Finlandia wasted no time in getting on the board. Just 16 seconds into the contest, junior Kirsten L’Esperance scored off a pass from freshman Addie Budzinski.
Alverno held the Lions at bay for the rest of the half. Two goals in the first 11 minutes of the second half sealed the game.
Finlandia had 25 shots with 16 on goal, seven corner kicks and was called for eight fouls. L’Esperance had two goals and tied the school record with three assists while freshman Erika Lambert scored twice. L’Esperance now has 22 points, breaking the season school record of 21 by Sara Sleik (2005).
The Lions set team season records for goals (23) and points (65) while tying the marks for assists (19), shutouts (4) and wins (4).
Alverno had seven shots with three on goal, two corner kicks and was called for six fouls. Allison Weick had 10 saves.
Finlandia opens the home season, Sunday, Sept. 23 against UW-Superior. The game is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m.
